I remember my FIRST real girlfriend. We were 5-years-old and she lived on the way to Playschool (like Kindergarten, in those days).

I would "pick on her" every morning (meaning, pick her up on my way to school). We would hold hands. Embarassed

I could even tell you her name ... even though I haven't seen her since high school and haven't actually talked to her since playschool (50 years ago!!) But I won't tell you her name for FOIP reasons (Freedom of Information and Privacy Policy) ... but mainly because someday my wife might read this and it could get me in trouble! Smile

The First mountain I climbed to the top was Cavode Mountain in Empire, Colorado - 13000 some odd feet.  It was an incredible thrill -- and it was also above timberline.  I was sick the whole way down, LOL.  But it was indescribable at the top til the altitude sickness set in....well that was pretty indescribable itself, actually.

Ah, my first car. A '63 Chev Biscayne. I bought it just before my 16th birthday on faith that I would pass my driver's examine once I turned 16 (which I did, successfully).

A month later, partly due to my inexperience as a defensive driver, and partly due to the carelessness of another driver, I had an accident that caused enough damage to my car that it wasn't suitable to take on the road. I had planned to repair it, but never did.

But what a great month it was! My friends and I got good use out of that automobile. Smile

My first car was a Taunus. I was in Germany. The taunus was a german version of ford or buick.  That thing caused a lot of headaches.  It's hard to deal when your car breaks down where you can speak very little of the local language.  It was still fun to have it though - I saw a few different countries in that car so despite a few more than slightly inconvenient breakdowns, I sure have good memories of that car.

My First (real) Job

I did the usual things for a little extra money when I was a kid: yard work in the neighborhood, shovelling snow in winter, babysitting...

But my first REAL job was as a pinsetter in a bowling alley! It only paid 5 cents a line (one game, one person), but for a 14-year-old, it was still a little cash and a real job. And it was fun, sometimes, too, when you weren't getting beaned on the noggin! It also involved other duties around the premises besides just setting pins for bowlers.

I learned a valuable lesson in independence and confidence as a result of that job, as well. I always felt that I was a dependable and hard working employee and one day, anticipating a social event I wanted to attend, in advance, I asked the boss for the day off. He must have been having a bad day and he said "No!"

So I told him fine, I quit. Well, he started back-peddling in a hurry and told me it was okay, I could have the day off. But I had already made up my mind, so I stuck to my decision and that was the end of my first job. Smile

My First Traffic Violation

When I was about 16 or 17 I was driving my Dad's car, a '63 Ford sedan with standard transmission. It did not have automatic steering, meaning you had to kind of crank the wheel to turn.

I discovered that if you were going about 30 mph or so and you jerked the steering wheel to the side and let go, the car would continue going straight, but it would rock from side-to-side as it went down the street. I was demonstrating this neat little technique to a group of friends in the car with me but little did I know that an officer of the law was also keeping an eye on me.

He pulled me over, gave me a lecture and a traffic ticket, then sent us on our way. I was so mad! And embarrassed. To this day, I don't know why he couldn't have just given me a friendly warning. Our speed was low and there wasn't another car on the road for blocks in either direction. Frown
