Never thought this question would come up

I just purposely approved a spam comment on my RHS1 blog. LOL....I never in a million years would have ever thought I'd do that one . But hey -- the guy has a syracuse.edu link in his post so I figured it might just not be a bad one to leave there - but that was his email - -- @syracuse.edu and his site is parked with a coming soon - just a family site so who knows. I'll have to check it later to make sure it doesn't turn into porn or something wild ........ The comment itself is generic so I know it's just a backlinker.
Okay -- but now I am wondering.....does the .edu in that email carry the same importance that the .edu in a website link on the comments or is it just a terrifically moot point? I'd like to know this for future reference. I deal with a LOT of College folk - professors and students, and would like to know what kind of pull they are giving me when they post somewhere.

I've never seen a reference anywhere that an email address counts as a backlink. If it did, getting a link would simply mean registering with a site. Also, backlinks take juice away, they don't give.

I don't know that that's completely accurate. Doesn't linking to quality resources improve your own standing as an authority site? Certainly, it would be better to link out to 10 high-quality sites than 10 low-quality sites.

Yes, Google hates black holes, but outbound links from comments may have much less significance in that regard.
