Mad-Libs Style Forms

This is something that has made the rounds in the IM space recently. Apparently, presenting forms that need to be filled out in a "mad-libs" style increases conversion rates quite dramatically.

Here's the source where I first encountered this story: http://www.lukew.com/ff/entry.asp?1007

I have not had the chance to try this myself yet. Thoughts and comments appreciated.

Hey Shane, I just noticed this new technique as well, and at first glance I thought it was pretty cool... it reminded me of elementary school and the excersises teachers gave us.

The only thing I am concerned about is the css form field that simply looks like a line at the bottom (like a traditional offline paper form), which is not the norm online... I don't think people aren't used to that display yet, and I'm wondering how many people will not even realize they can click on the line and enter their information.

If I were to use this technique right now, I would use the traditional form field displays to make sure people know they can click and type where needed.

Good point. I'd also guess that using the known form field would be the safer bet.

But for the method itself it's clear to see how the less formal style could invite more people to fill out the fields.

Yea, I agree... I think this less formal approach could prove quite powerful with increased conversions (those who I have seen testing so far have been getting great results) ... going to be doing some testing myself.
