Points: I have some feedback regarding the points system. First off, let me say that I couldn't care less about the points, so this isn't personal. It's just that I was reading through the helpdesk material, and when I came across the bit about points I A) realized for the first time that there were points in TM and B) couldn't help but think that the system makes no sense. It's stated that the points are supposed to be a measure of member's involvement with TM, right? Currently, though, the points are mainly representative of how much wire-posts a member makes. I would say that being involved and doing a lot of TM-twittering are not necessarily the same thing. If someone comes here and chats with a few people on the wire every day, they'll have a billion points in no time. If someone comes here and posts one of those long, valuable, information-filled posts that are already popping up in blogs and groups around here every few days, they'll be dammned to the very bottom of the highscore-list (do we have a highscore list? never mind). But are they really less involved? In short: Saying "Anyone here?" on the wire gets you the same amount of points as posting something like this. If we'd care about points, this would clearly not make sense. And if we're going to hand out prizes (good prizes?) for points, we should care about them.
That's just what I can come up with off the top of my head. If I were in charge, I think I'd go with that second option, because I couldn't be bothered to spend a lot of time fiddling with the points-system. Your thoughts? |

I think you may have been looking at an older listing of the points system. A wire post is not currently equivalent to a group topic post. Jared updated the points distribution last month to be more reflective of the value. Here is the thread that shows the current point distribution: http:/ |
