In this speech, Gary Vaynerchuk makes a very good point when he says that "people love real". If you know Vaynerchuk, you know that his thing is to say anyone can basically do what he did with Wine Library TV which is: Make videos about something you really love, keep making them and build a brand about yourself and eventually make money off of it. And the point about "people love real" is that you may think your crappy videos of yourself can't compete against flashy professional video productions, but that's simply not the case. As "reality TV" and, more importantly, shaky, low quality videos on YouTube that get millions of views demonstrate, people generally value "real and funky" over "fake and polished".
So, don't worry about low production quality in your videos. But do worry about keeping it real. Probably one of the biggest mistakes an amateur video marketer can make is trying to come off all professional. If you have low production quality and you come off as high-strung, rehearsed and basically "trying too hard", that will turn people off in an instant. If you want to get attention to your videos, inject as much of your personality as you can into them. Don't try to be something else, don't hold back because you think that saying something particular or doing something would be "unprofessional". Go ahead and do it, you can only win.
Just to make one thing clear: This concerns "personal branding" style videos. If you're a blogger and you make videos for your blog, this is the type of video you want to make. |
