I Need $5000 by the End of the Month - What Do I Do?

The amount can be any amount--I figured $5000 would be enough to get most people's attention that those looking for $100, $500, $1000, $2500, etc. by the end of the week, month, etc. would check out this thread.

The purpose here is to list a number of ideas for generating that kind of money in a short amount of time.  I will post a few things to get the ball rolling.  Hopefully some others will jump in with other ideas to keep the ball rolling on this page.  (Which will also serve to help keep it from getting lost and buried.)

First, we'll start with nothing...

STARTING WITH NOTHING

If you don't have any kind of IP (intellectual property) assets (a site that already generates money, an eBook or other info product with sales or a list of previous/prospective buyers), then you're going to have a tough time generating a significant amount of money in a short amount of time using Internet marketing methods.  That's not to say it's impossible, but very unlikely, especially if you're new to Internet marketing or haven't done it seriously in the past.

With that in mind, you'll need to be creative.

Sell Stuff on Ebay

Or, if you need the cash faster, have a garage sale.  Or find out how much you can get a booth at a flea market for a weekend.  This is probably the easiest way to make some cash, but you may find that some things are not worth as much as you hoped or wanted, or that you just can't get buyers at the prices you expect.  As a result, you may be forced into selling valuables you really didn't want to part with or selling a larger quantity of items than you expected, in order to get the amount of money you need.

Get a Part-Time Job

With a part-time job, if you work four hours a night, you'll get paid for four hours of work.  Work twenty hours in a week, and you'll get paid for twenty hours worth of work.  Why am I stating the obvious?  Because if you were to spend that twenty hours on Internet marketing--and you don't have much Internet marketing experience--you won't necessarily see any results from it.  You might earn some money, you may not.  Another possibility is that you will earn money, but not for weeks or months down the line.  Sometimes, it may take a while before your Internet marketing efforts pay off (and some people quit before they've reached that point!).  So, you may not have extra cash in hand at the end of the week or month--when you need it!  As a result, a part-time job will put extra money in your hands at the end of each pay period.  The downside, of course, is that you may not be able to find a part-time job.

Offer a Service

Can you write?  Illustrate?  Build websites?  Code in PHP?  Etc.?  If you have a service you can offer, that can be a quick way to generate cash as well.  If you are able to offer a service that can easily be delivered online, you open yourself to a wide market.  Consequently, it may be easier to find some work online than a part-time job locally.

STARTING WITH SOMETHING

If you already have IP (intellectual property) assets, such as an eBook, membership site, buyer list, etc., you have a few different options.

Offer a Special Sale

If you regularly sell your eBook for $97, offer it for $47 (or whatever discount you choose) for a limited time.  Similarly for membership sites; offer an extension on their subscription plus a bonus at a discount.

Create and Offer a New Product

Create a new product and offer it as an upsell on an existing eBook site.  You can also offer it to your existing buyer list or subscribers.

Promote a Quality Affiliate Product

Look for JVs with other product owners.  Offer their products to your list, for which you will get a commission.  To spice up the offer, you could offer something of your own as a free bonus for purchasing through your link.

Flip Your Website

If you can't generate quick profits from your existing website, you might be able to flip it.  For example, if you're generating $100 per month in profit from the site each month, you may be able to sell it for $600-$1200 or so.  You lose out on those long-term profits, but you get your money right away, which is what you're looking for.

SET ASIDE FOR A RAINY DAY

Whatever your situation, and how you get yourself out of it, once you've gotten yourself in a better position, start socking away money for a rainy day.  Start an emergency fund so that you'll have money on hand to cover for unexpected expenses.  In addition to that, keep money in reserve for larger issues, such as a job loss or decline in sales, so you'll be covered for a time if that happens as well.

And, if you're looking at this now, and aren't under any financial duress, make sure that you are covered for a rainy day, so that you won't need to find this thread one day...
